As an Adoption Practitioner approved by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Teresa is able to complete domestic and international homestudies.
Teresa holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from Lakehead University and an Adoption Studies Certificate through St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor.
Teresa is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers, Association of Private Practitioners in Adoption, Adoption Council of Ontario and the North American Council for Adoptable Children.
Teresa regularly speaks to prospective adoptive singles/parents at various agencies’ information sessions about adoption. She stays current with adoption theories and literature by reading relevant professional articles/books, taking courses and attending workshops and international conferences. She also keeps updated of Ontario adoption regulations to ensure her work complies with the newest developments in the field.
Teresa also brings over 20 years of experience working in the social service sector in both front-line and management roles with youth and adults with developmental difficulties, traumatic brain injuries, and the elderly in community, hospital and residential settings.
As a mother to two children adopted from Hunan, China, Teresa has personal experience with the joys and complexities of international and trans-racial adoption. She continues being a strong advocate for building families through adoption.
